THE CURRENT NEW MEMBER AUDITIONS!
Form and video submissions must be submitted by February 22nd, 2026
Hi there! Thank you so much for stopping by—we are PSYCHED to have you! :) Below is the full scoop on our virtual audition process. Logistics-wise, this page covers the essentials, but if anything is missing, please shout out your questions using the form above. We can't wait to meet you!
Audition Checklist:
Step 1: The Form! - Please fill out this audition form to get the ball rolling. And a major heads-up: PLEASE BE YOURSELF and don't stress about the questions—we genuinely just want to get to know the person behind the voice!
Step 2: The Video! - After submitting your audition form, you’ll receive an email with specific audition video instructions, including how to submit! As a preview, these are the things we’ll be asking you to include:
Warm-Ups & Range - Please record yourself warming up so we can hear your high and low range. Important: Be sure to state out loud exactly what notes you are hitting on either end so we can see what you can do!
Solos - Time to shine! Please record two contemporary songs that showcase your voice. Pick songs that highlight your best qualities and show us what makes you special!
OPTIONAL: Beatboxing - Do you have vocal percussion skills? If so, bring it on! Please record a short example of your beatboxing (but if not, no worries—this is totally optional).
Your form and your video must BOTH be submitted by Sunday, February 22nd! That being said, early submissions are highly preferred to ensure our quality review of your audition.
And that’s it! We’ll let you know callback results and next steps by February 27th via email!

How long would it approximately take to complete the form? - The form should take approximately 30-50 minutes to complete. Again, don't stress about the questions and much of the information in the form is available on this page.
Where and how do I submit the video? - Detailed information will be provided upon submission of the your audition form, but we will ask you to submit links to the videos (no files/attachments). We prefer an unlisted YouTube video (see tutorial here) , but other linkable options (Google Drive, Dropbox etc.) work as well.
How should I name my video? - Please name your video with the following format “FirstName LastName - 2026 Audition for The Current”
What should I do if I encounter technical issues with the form? Use the questions form above.
How do I know if you’ve received my audition? - We will contact you via email confirming we received it!
📹 Recording & Production Guidelines:
Is this an audio-only or video audition? - This is a video audition. We want to see you!
Are there framing requirements for video? - No requirements other than being able to see your face.
What is the policy on editing and audio effects? - Audio must be unedited. We just want to hear you!
Should the recordings be one continuous take or separate files? - We prefer one submission video/link that covers everything but the video itself does not have to be one continuous take. If there are technical issues, multiple videos/links are OK.
🎵 Musical & Repertoire Specifics:
What are the rules regarding accompaniment? Solos should be sung a cappella - no backing tracks or other accompaniment please. Piano/other accompaniments for purposes of warm ups are fine, but make sure we’re able to hear you.
How long should the song cuts be? - Somewhere between 45-90 seconds in length - a verse and a chorus (or something similar) is ideal
Does "contemporary" exclude specific genres? - Please no classical / musical theater / opera for your solo submissions. Check out our socials (links below) for a flavor of the type of genres that would match
For the warm-up, do you want a specific scale? - Any scales that work for you and showcase your range
How long should the beatboxing sample be? - No minimum time requirements, just whatever shows off your skills!
❓ Eligibility & Expectations
What specific voice parts are you looking for? - We’re currently looking for all voice parts / vocal percussionists. Bonus points for a cappella leadership experience and/or interest!
How many people are you looking for? - We’re targeting adding 3-4 new members to the group but it all depends on the auditionees!
Do you have an age requirement? - We are a diverse group and we like it that way! We are open to all ages 21+, and right now our roster spans 20s, 30s, and 40s. Unfortunately, we cannot accept submissions from anyone under age 21.
Is the callback going to be in person? - Call backs will be in person. We will be holding callbacks on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at 7:30PM
If selected for a callback, is the the virtual Pre-Callbacks Orientation required? - Yes, to ensure that all auditionees have enough information and opportunity to ask questions prior to the callback. If there are conflicts be sure to note that on the form.
What is the anticipated time commitment? - We currently rehearse weekly from 7:00-9:30PM in Manhattan .
Why should I want to join The Current? - Well in our own words…
”We sing all sorts of artists and genres! Our rep is so eclectic, and we do silly one-off meme songs and TikTok trends too, which keeps things dynamic.”
”I love spending time with people who are just as (or more) into music in all shapes and forms, and being able to nerd out on musicals, complex jazz chords, or sing punk rock in silly accents is a form of wonderful musical community I need in my life.”
”I love the people in this group. Some of it is time spent together, some of it is shared musical sensibilities, and some of it is just good vibes, but when we’re all together it’s just such a nice energy bouncing between us.”
”I also love meeting other professionals in the city who love making music but it’s not our day jobs. It’s nice to have friends that live a Hannah Montana double life too :)”
